Brief description: Office of State Guardian -- serves as court-appointed guardian of last resort for adults with mental incapacity; Legal Advocacy Service -- can provide advice or representation to persons of all ages with legal problems stemming from their disability; Human Rights Authority -- investigates complaints of alleged violations of disability laws, and provides mechanism to negotiate solution.

Persons served: Income eligible clients in Champaign, Ford and Vermilion Counties

Brief description: Provides legal assistance to low-income individuals as well as seniors age 60 and older. Services include advice, brief service, negotiation, and litigation on selected civil matters such as welfare, medical assistance, utilities, housing, consumer debt, elder abuse and selected family problems such as divorce.

Qualifications: Income eligibility guidelines are 125% of the federal poverty guidelines. Must be either living in Champaign, Vermilion or Ford Counties or being sued in these counties.
