Brief description: Three forest preserves provide opportunities for recreation, education and conservation. Lake of the Woods, Mahomet, is the site of the Early American Museum, Mabery Gelvin Botanical Gardens and an 18-hole golf course. Middle Fork River Forest Preserve in Penfield contains a campground and waterfowl viewing area. Salt Fork River Forest Preserve at Homer Lake is well known for fishing.
Fees: No admission fees to parks, museum or garden. Fees are charged for golfing and special events.
Accessibility: All buildings are wheelchair accessible; anyone with reasonable special needs is asked to call 586-3360 in advance of their visit.
Hours: 7 a.m. -- dark, daily, year-round, weather-permitting.

Brief description: Supervised by exercise physiologist and/or nurses, this exercise program is beneficial for persons with cardiac and pulmonary diseases, as well as other medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity and orthopaedic limitations. Heart rates, blood pressures, oxygen levels, EKGs and blood sugars are measured as needed. Thirty-one aerobic machines.
Fees: Currently $11-$44 per billing period, depending on number of visits.
Qualifications: Doctor's permission slip
Accessibility: Handicapped parking spaces available in parking deck, elevators and wheel chairs are available in the lobby.
Hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 6-8 a.m. and 4-6 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Brief description: C-U Special Recreation provides recreational programs and leisure services for persons with disabilities. Inclusion and specialized programs are available. Quality recreation programs are provided for people with disabilities by hiring and training qualified staff, providing staff ratios, which ensure program safety and success and adapting programs and equipment to meet the needs of the participant.
Fee: Depends on program. Scholarships are available.
